Different types of grammar activities

What are activities?

Sometimes I think activities are just to have fun, but in real life they aren't exclusively for that. I have learned that activities might include a set of items I didn't realize they were to.  One of the thing which really calls my attention is the different kinds of activities that exist according to teacher Matthew's class.
In his class he mentioned 3 types of GRAMMAR activities that are new for me, or maybe I used to use them, but without any distinction. These activities are:

   a. Mechanical: In this kind of activity teacher used to have control of the entire class (teacher centered) and doesn't let the children participate fluently.

   b. Manipulative: Teacher still controlling the class but, he/she allows students to do certain assessment under his/her supervision.

   c. Communicative:This activity is the better one, because it is focus on students, in order to let them feel comfortable and be participating actively.

In conclusion I do think that is very important for us as teacher to be clear and identify types of activities we plan to do with our kids.

  1. Hi Bolivar, I can see your blog now. I see that you can define the different types of grammar activities. Do you find that you use a range of activities when you are teaching? What are the benefits of varying activities?
